Obituary for Charles D. "Chuck" Payton

Charles D. “Chuck” Payton age 87 of Hudson IL passed away at 8:00 AM on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn Menn Medical Center, Normal IL. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson, IL. Rev Dr. Curt D. Keller will be officiating. Burial will be at Hudson Township Cemetery, Hudson, IL with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5:00 PM-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson, IL. The family suggests memorials be made to Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson, IL or to St. Jude Children’s, Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL.

Chuck was born February 9, 1932 in Leitchfield, Kentucky the son of Clarence and Iva Phelps Payton. He married Mary L. Ward on July 28, 1951 in Sibley, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his 3 children, Chuck L. (Deb) Payton, Hudson, IL, Terry R. (Janice Yuhas) Payton, Lithia, FL, Debbie P. (Shannon) Kinsella, Towanda, IL, 7 grandchildren
9 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Ruby Summers, Winnie Vaughn and
1 grandson.

Chuck was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson, IL. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Teamsters in Joliet Illinois for 33 years. He had worked for Nussbaum Trucking for 32 ½ years as a truck driver. He had worked part time at Williams National Lease and CIT as a truck driver. He was a member of the Bloomington Moose Lodge and American Legion Lexington, IL. Chuck loved to play blue grass music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and great great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
