Obituary for Eugene Williams

Eugene Williams, 80, of Ellsworth passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 2nd. The family welcomes friends and neighbors to the visitation on Friday, September 6th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home in LeRoy and the funeral service at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, with David O’Neall and Pastor Bobby Davis officiating. Interment will be in Dawson Cemetery Association, Ellsworth.

Gene was born on October 7th, 1938, to Jesse and Mabel (Misch) Williams of Ellsworth. His love for farming, family, faith and community were his guideposts. He proudly lived his entire life in Dawson Township, attended White country school and Ellsworth grade school, graduating in 1956 from Ellsworth high school with 18 in his class. He attended Illinois State Normal University while serving in the Army National Guard and graduated from ISNU in 1962. He was a 4th generation farmer in the Ellsworth area for 50 years, was an owner of the Ellsworth Grain Elevator, and operated trucks hauling grain. He was a Dawson Township Trustee for 30 years and also served on the Water District Board, the Tri-Valley School Board and McLean County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. In 2006, he was named McLean County Farmer of the Year. He was a member of the Ellsworth United Methodist Church, formerly church treasurer and chairman of the Trustee committee.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, the love of his life for 57 years, his three children – Dan (MaryEllen) Williams of Carmel, Indiana; Susan (Craig) Schlueter of St. Louis; Kurt (Tricia) Williams of Ellsworth, and 11 grandchildren. He was immensely proud of his entire family. Several of his most cherished activities included travel, ISU basketball games, “competitive” games of Euchre with grandchildren and friends, and daily visits with old and new Panera coffee friends.

Memorials may be made in Gene’s memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Dawson Cemetery Association or Ellsworth United Methodist Church.
