Helen J. Quimby Obituary (1921 - 2018)

Helen J. Quimby, 97, of Henry, IL passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Country Comfort Retirement Home, Henry. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, Henry with Rev. Jim Boswell and Chaplain Richard Hillenbrand officiating. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or to Country Comfort Retirement Home, Henry. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Henry is assisting the family with services. Helen was born July 2, 1921 in Bellflower, IL the daughter of William H. and Bertha M. Bradbury Schneider. She married Donald A. Quimby on August 9, 1944 in Peoria, IL. He died December 28, 1992. Surviving are four children Dennis (Julie) Quimby of Hopewell, Carol (Bob) Gingerich of Rochelle, Sandy (Alan) Hare of Henry, and Sharon (Bob) Cole of Farmers Branch, TX; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four greatgrandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Ruth, and one great-great grandson Brandon. Helen was a member of the First Christian Church where she worked as the secretary for many years, served on the church board and various committees, and was a Sunday school teacher. She taught school for over 30 years and last taught at Henry Grade School. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching them win the World Series. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, crocheting, and reading. The family would like to thank Country Comfort and Vitas Hospice for their loving care.
