Obituary for Mark C Gregor

Mark C. Gregor, 69, of Henry, Illinois died at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his residence.
Mark was born March 26, 1949 in Chicago, IL the son of Albert Roger and Margaret Harney Gregor.
He attended Madison Grade School and St. Laurence Catholic School finishing fourth grade prior to moving to Henry in June of 1959. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School form 1959-1963. He then attended Henry Senachwine High School and graduated in 1967. Mark also furthered his education with courses at ICC, Blackhawk College, and Bradley University. In March of 1967 while still in high school he started his career in Communications Industry part time and then full time after graduating. He worked for Telephone Specifications Company, installing communications switching equipment in the United States, Canada, and South America from 1967 to 1972. He then worked for GTE from 1972 to 1976. While working in South America he met the love of his life and married Betty Ann Cortez in Tijuana, Mexico on August 30, 1969. Mark lost both his wife and their son Joshua on March 24, 1971 during child birth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and son.
Mark became and over the road truck driver for Chipper Cartage, Unzicker Truck, O’Neill Trucking, and finally Consolidated Freightways, retiring on December 20, 1990. Mark was a member of the Henry Fire Protection District from 1973 to 1990, serving as District Fire Chief from 1987 until1990. He was a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross, a volunteer for Big Brothers-Big Sisters in Peoria, a foster parent with catholic Social Services, built his first home west of Henry from plans he drafted while in high school, was a member of the Illinois Live Streamers and a Railroad investor all his life.
Cremation rites were accorded, and private Inurnment will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery, Henry with Deacon Charles Zulz officiating. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home is assisting the family with services. Memorials may be made to the ARK Animal Shelter, Lacon.
