Obituary for William D. "Bill" Kent

William D. “Bill” Kent, 87, a lifelong resident of Clinton, IL passed away 6:20 P.M. August 6, 2019 at Beecher Manor, Beecher, IL.

Services will be 11 AM Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Rev. C. Don Ferrill and Rev. Paul Stroup officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Clinton Presbyterian Church.

Bill was born February 22, 1932 in Clinton, IL the son of Emmett and Helen (Didlake) Kent. He married Sandra Louise Rainey September 12, 1954 in Clinton, IL. She passed away October 21, 2007.

Survivors include his children, Mark Kent, Clinton, IL; Rex (Sandy) Kent, Columbus, IN; Lisa (Rich) Hensey, Chicago, IL, along with his grandchildren, Celia & Bennett Hensey and Alexa & Cameryn Kent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, John Kent, Ann Kent, and Dorothy Luker.

Bill served in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder and Deacon. Bill was very involved in his community as charter member of the Clinton Athletic Boosters and Clinton Lake Sailing Association; along with charter member and past president of the Clinton Y-Players and Ministry of Criminal Justice in Clinton, IL; a past President of the Gideons; life time member of the DeWitt County Museum; and volunteer instructor for the DeWitt County DOVE, Inc. He was co-owner of the E. Kent & Company Lumber as well as serving as a Corrections Officer for the DeWitt County Jail. With his wife, Sandra, he enjoyed sailing and motorcycle riding, and was an avid Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and all Illini sports fan.
