Richard "Dick" Ralph

Richard "Dick" Ralph, 84, of Odell, passed away at 1:18 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 12, 2017) at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. 

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Odell with the rosary being recited at 3:30PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Church with Rev. Adam Cesarek officiating.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Odell, IL.  Memorials in Dick’s name may be made to St. Paul School in Odell.  Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, IL. is handling the arrangements.

Dick was born January 12, 1933, in Pontiac, the son of George and Mary (Delpoas) Ralph. He married Ruth Harrington on May 31, 1959, in Odell. She survives in Odell. 

Also surviving are sons Mike (Julie Harner) Pontiac; John (Sarah Streck) Riverside, IL.; and daughter Nicole (Roy) Rickert, Bismark, ND; sister Carol Strobbe, Pontiac; 10 grandchildren, Rachael, Jake and Jackie Ralph; Luke, Will, Emma and Owen Ralph; Molly, Paul and Elliot Rickert; and two great grandchildren, Ryder and Todd Hollander. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter Jamie, three brothers and two sisters. 

Dick was a graduate of St. Paul High School in Odell where he was a guard on the historic 1951 Sweet Sixteen basketball team. He served in the Army during the Korean War. In a career that spanned 50 years, he was a director for the Illinois Farmer's Union in Springfield where he oversaw a job training program for under privileged youth.  He relished in a second career as a car salesman, where his love for people and good conversation led to many friendships.

A beloved family man who cherished his time with his grandchildren, Dick also loved sports, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and politics, and he never met a stranger. His homemade fudge and caramel corn were legendary.

Dick was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

So sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I worked with him at Rub Chevrolet in Dwight back in the late 80's. Truly a good man with whom I shared many good times and laughs with. Prayers to his entire family.
