Ben W. Boyd Sr. Obituary (1927 - 2019)

Ben W. Boyd Sr. age 91 of Bloomington, IL passed away at 10:02 AM Friday, September 6, 2019 at his residence. Their will be no service or visitation. The family request no flowers, memorials be made to the Baby Fold. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL is in charge of arrangements. Ben was born September 16, 1927 in Weatherford, Oklahoma the son of Dr. Thomas Alford and Alta Fry Boyd. He married Sue Donna Barton on March 25, 1949 in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She survives. Also surviving are his 4 children, Thomas Alford (Lori) Boyd III, Phoenix, AZ, Rebecca Jan Brittin, Bloomington, IL, Benjamin W. Boyd, Jr, Bloomington, IL, Paul Barton Boyd, Bloomington, IL, 7 grandchildren, Justin (Lisa) Boyd, San Antonio, TX, Andrea (Andrew) Cart, Knoxville, TN, Heather (Michael) Surma, Milwaukee, WI, Jill (Michael) Roberts, Leander, TX, Angie Boyd, Leander, TX, Andrew (Elyssa) Boyd, Charlotte, NC, Michael Boyd, Leander, TX. 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Ben is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters. Ben graduated from Tulane University. He was a member of Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington, IL where he had served as treasurer. Ben was a member the Young Mens Club and Golden K Kiwanis. He was the former Director of Environmental Health at the McLean County Health Department from 1966-1977 and later served as the Director of McLean County Health Department from 1977-1990. He enjoyed music, art, painting, woodworking and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
