Betty Jo Spangler Obituary (1928 - 2022)

We regretfully announce the passing of Betty Jo Spangler of La Rose, Illinois on Monday, May 16, 2022. Betty Jo passed away peacefully. Our mother, sister, grandma, great grandma, and friend, Betty Jo was one of the strongest, spunkiest and most loving women to ever walk this earth. We were blessed to have her as the family matriarch. Betty Jo graduated from La Rose High School. After graduating, she went to the University of Illinois and went on to teach in a one-room country school in Pattonsburg, Illinois. Betty Jo (McCully) Spangler married George O. Spangler on August 30, 1947 and together they went on to have three children. George passed away in September of 2007. They were married 60 years. After George passed away, Delbert Shirley became her euchre partner and loyal friend. Betty Jo was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her. She was well-loved by her family and community. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Spangler, brother, Clyde McCully, and great grandson, Kruex Forney. Betty Jo is survived by her three children, Dan (Marjorie) Spangler of Washburn, Martha (Rick) Hinck of Spring Bay, and Sandy Forney of Washburn; a brother, Samuel McCully Sr. of Metamora; nine grandchildren Nichole (Ryan) Wolland, Lori Forney, Dani (Bobby) Marin, Tom (Tawnya Mountjoy) Forney, Bryce (Erica) Spangler, Ross (Kayla) Spangler, Alissa (Spangler) Ogborn, Travis (Andi) Spangler, Scott (Amanda) Forney and her great-grandchildren, Kiara, Vera, Jackson, Payton, Kamryn, Kyndall, Megan, Avery, Josiah, Maddux, Lexi, Brooke, Luke, Colton, Hannah, Mallory, Reed, Madi, Remi, Hudson, Lincoln, Elle and Mae. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Betty Jo's name to her church, Crow Meadow Presbyterian Church of La Rose, IL or the American Diabetes Association. The visitation and funeral will be held on June 12, 2022; visitation at 1:00 p.m.; funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Crow Meadow Presbyterian Cemetery, LaRose. A meal to follow at 5:00 p.m. All will be held at Crow Meadow Presbyterian Church in La Rose. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Washburn is in charge of arrangements.
