Betty Marie Turley Obituary (1920 - 2018)

Bloomington - Betty M. Turley, 97, of Springfield, Mo, formerly of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Glendale Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation in Springfield. Her funeral will be held at Calvert-Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 2 PM with the Reverend James Warren of First Christian Church officiating. There will be a Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Park Hill Cemetery. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements. Betty was born on July 6, 1920, in Bloomington to Glenn and Roma Nicholas Bartley. She was united in marriage to Richard A. Turley on March 1, 1941, at First Christian Church in Bloomington. Betty and Dick were faithful members of First Christian Church until their retirement to Florida in 1979. Betty retired from State Farm after 16 years as a secretary in their Home Office. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter Kay (Burt) Haun of Springfield, MO, her son Rick Turley of San Francisco CA, one granddaughter Angie (Tyson) Foster of Ozark, MO, one grandson Burton (Jen) Haun of Portland, OR and great grandchildren Skyler Foster, Mackenzie Foster and Ezra Haun. For being a little lady she certainly enjoyed many fun activities from roller skating with Dick on one of their first dates to playing ping pong, bridge, bowling and fishing, sometimes bringing in a larger catch than Dick! She had a wonderful competitive nature. They loved traveling especially keeping up with their son's ice skating competitions and later ice shows. She enjoyed corresponding with her family and friends and in her quiet moments reading. There was always a book or two by her side. She will be remembered for her kind nature and sweet spirit. She will be missed greatly by all those who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to First Christian Church.
