Bruce Wallace Yount Obituary (1925 - 2019)

Bruce W. Yount, 94 of Bloomington, died peacefully in his home on Thursday December 19, 2019. Bruce was born May 31, 1925 in Danville to Bruce R. and Elizabeth Summers Yount. He married Ethlyn Allbright on September 16, 1950 in Western Springs, IL. He is survived by his wife of 69 years; his three children Greg (Diane) Yount of Bloomington, Steve (Alison) Yount of Danville, CA, Debbie (Tom) Veale of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; eight grandchildren, Shelley Dover, Sarah Eich, Kaitlin Yount, Jake Yount, Cassie Yount, Grace Veale, John Veale; and seven great-grandchildren, David Williams, Aubrey Williams, Penny Dover, Ruby Dover, Colton Eich, Callahan Eich, Jack West-Yount. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter Stacey Williams and three brothers Ralph, Jim and Joe. Bruce grew up in Catlin, IL attending and graduating from Catlin Township High School. He then enlisted in the Navy where he served for 3 years. After his military service he attended and graduated from Northwestern University. Bruce worked for Dunn & Bradstreet, then followed a career in finance and advertising in Detroit, New York City and Chicago. In 1961, the family moved to Bloomington where he worked for Biddle Advertising for 13 years. Finishing his career working in Computer Services at Growmark. Bruce loved helping and being with others. He was a member of many clubs and organizations including Wesley United Methodist Church, American Legion, Rotary, The Baby Fold, Crossroads Fair Trade Gift Shop and Boy Scouts. He might be best remembered as a Scoutmaster for Troop 18 at Wesley Church for 30 years and was awarded one of the highest honors in Scouting, the Silver Beaver. He was also well liked as a camp counselor for Outdoor Ed. He was known for his witty humor, big heart and willingness to serve others. There will be a Celebration of Life for Bruce on Saturday January 11, 2019 at 11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church. Reverend Sara Isbell will officiate. Following the service there will be a reception and luncheon at the church. Inurnment will be private at Funks Grove Cemetery in McLean. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Boy Scouts of America. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.
