C. Lucille "Lucy" Ballinger Obituary (1925 - 2019)

Lucy Ballinger, 93 of Normal, journeyed to heaven to join her husband, Al at 8:10pm on Friday, March 15, 2019. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 26 from 4-7pm at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home. Services will be presented at Calvert & Metzler by Bryan Burris on Wednesday, March 27 at 10am. Following the service burial will be held at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington with her grandsons and sons-in-law having the honor of serving as pallbearers. The family suggests memorials to be made to the Carlock Christian Church or to the David Davis Mansion. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements. Lucy was born on June 30, 1925 in El Paso, Illinois. She is the youngest child of Harry and Grace Shoemaker Greiner. She married Alvin Ballinger on November 8, 1969 in Carlock. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2010. Left behind to remember their mother are, Sherry (John) Peifer, Bloomington; Vicky (Chuck) Scott, Normal; Loretta (Todd) Vance, Normal; and stepson Gary Ballinger, Kenney, IL; grandchildren, Joshua Vance, Erin Scott, Brian (Alison) Scott, Kayla Peifer, and Justin (Steven) Ballinger; great grandchildren, Alexis and Isla Scott. She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, and 2 sisters. Lucy was a lifelong member of Carlock Christian Church. In her early years she worked for State Farm and later worked as a Secretary for McLean County Unit 5 School District. Lucy was very active and enjoyed going to the Normal Parks and Rec Exercise Class in which she has attended 3 days a week for the past 37 years. She also volunteered her time with the Normal Public Library 2 times a year with their book sales, the Special Olympics, the OSF Home Care assembling care packets, and the David Davis Mansion guiding tours and helping put up the Christmas Decorations along with helping decorate the Christmas Tree at the Capitol in Springfield. Lucy was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her heart and joy. She had an entertaining sense of humor and would often share a story full of laughter. She was affectionately known as "Cookie GG" by her great grandchildren. The family is deeply grateful for the special care and comfort given by Dr. Sven Klauss, Nurse Joan, Dr. Stephen Kindred, Hospice Social Worker Michele, and Cardiology Nurse Becca.
