Charles Carroll "Charlie" Crabtree Obituary (1946 - 2018)

Charles Carroll "Charlie" Crabtree, 72 of Normal passed away on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at 9:51 PM in Bloomington. There will be a funeral for Charlie on Wednesday December 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Reverend David Glesne will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington. A private committal will be held later at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements. Charlie was born June 2, 1946 in Frankfort, Indiana to Ewell and Gladys Davis Crabtree. He married Kathy Quiram in Benson, Illinois April 8, 1972. She survives. Also surviving are his two daughters, Nikki Segobiano of Normal, Candace (Sean) Jablonski of New Lenox, IL, three grandchildren, Kiely Segobiano, Caleb and Trevor Jablonski, one brother Gene (Mary) Crabtree of Bloomington, one sister, Anita (Charlie) Crowe of Bloomington, and one sister in law, Barb Crabtree of Normal. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law Howard and Lela Quiram and one brother Bob Crabtree. Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as Manager of Computer Operations at Country Financial for 36 years. He drove a school bus for Unit 5 for 19 years. He served as head usher, Vikings leader, drove the church bus, chaperoned the youth and senior citizens trips, and was a Sunday School Director at St. John's. Charlie was an avid fan and supporter of athletic events at Unit 5, including announcing and keeping score at games and the State Farm Holiday Classic. He encouraged all athletes to do their best athletically and in the classroom, and cared very much for them. He was chosen by student's as Grand Marshall of the NCWHS Homecoming Parade. He was 2nd in the nation raising money for Walk for Mankind. His interests included gardening and yardwork, country music shows, having garage sales making sure to tell people "Thank you for shopping at Charlie Mart!", and shopping at Menards, earning him the nickname "Rebate King". His main love and passion were his daughter's and grandchildren. He had a huge heart and put others before himself. He left this world doing what he loved, and with people he loved. He will be greatly missed by many, but especially by his family who love him dearly. Memorial contributions may be made to Normal Community West High School or to St. John's Lutheran Church.
