Davie Griffith Obituary (1934

Davie Griffith received his promotion to heaven on June 21, 2023. He entered this world September 7, 1934, in a log cabin in the beautiful hills of southern Illinois. He was the third boy born to Floyd and Helen Wiley Griffith. Helen's great grandfather, Winstead Davie founded the town of Anna, IL naming the town after his wife Anna. The Davie name has significance in that area. Davie married Carol Lee Holtz, his high school sweetheart on September 3, 1955, and she was the love of his life for sixty-eight years. He met Jesus as his savior, along with his sweetheart at a revival at the Methodist Church in 1953. Davie's education at SIU Carbondale was interrupted by the Korean conflict and he served his country in the Army for six years. To his union with Carol was born Davie Kevin Griffith of Oregon, Tamara Lynn (Lee) Kittle of New York, and Todd David Griffith of Bloomington. He and Carol Lee were also foster parents to six children and opened their home to many others who needed extra help through the years. Davie worked for General Telephone for 40 years, which moved them to Bloomington. Those "hills of home" were already missed by this couple, but God blessed them with opportunities to serve Him where they felt God had sent them. Davie was active in his church, Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus and prison ministries. After retirement Davie worked and volunteered at local social service agencies. He is survived by Carol, his children, six foster children, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. His faith and his family brought Davie his greatest joy. After retirement, Davie and Carol Lee were able to travel to Hawaii, take an Alaskan cruise and visit their children and grandchildren in different states. Davie was preceded in death by and infant child, parents and his brothers Floyd and Phillip. There will be a memorial service at 11 AM Wednesday June 28, 2023, at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington. Pastor Len Thebarge will officiate. There will be a committal service at 10 AM Thursday June 29, 2023, at Camp Butler National Cemetery near Springfield. Calvert Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church in Normal.
