Gary Lee Umphress Obituary (1954 - 2018)

Flanagan: Gary Lee Umphress, 64, of Flanagan, passed away Thursday August 23, 2018, 8:55 pm at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. Visitation will be Monday August 27, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan. Graveside services will be Tuesday 12:00 noon at Davison Cemetery, Rural Minonk. Visitation will also be Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the memorial home. The Rev. Tim Barber will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the family. Gary was born July 27, 1954 in Streator, IL to Eugene and Pauline (Tolan) Umphress. He married Cheryl Hertz on September 19, 1992 at St. Mary's Church, Pontiac, IL. She survives in Flanagan. Also surviving are his children, Nicholas Umphress, of Flanagan, and his daughter, Katlyn (Seth) Ford, of Ft. Drum, NY, one brother, Steven (Brenda) Umphress, of Colorado Springs, Co., and his sister, Rita (Ray) Schneider, of Westfield, IN. His parents preceded him in death. Gary was a graduate of MDR High School. He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Mossville and Pontiac, in the Skilled Trades Area. He was retired. He was a member of the Pattonsburg Christian Church. Gary enjoyed classic movies, Frank Sentara, playing pool and most of all spending time with his family.
