Gregory A. Gill Obituary (1963 - 2022)

Gregory "Greg" Alan Gill, 58, of Pontiac, Illinois passed away, with family by his side, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A Celebration of Life memorial will be arranged by the family at a later date. Gregory was born July 6, 1963, in Oaklawn, Illinois, the son of Gerald and Betty (Owens) Gill. He is survived by his children, Morgan Gill, Malissa (Billy) Evans, Melanie Gill, Molly (Chris) Gaither, and Mason Gill; his five grandchildren, Zane and Adalyn Evans, Lucas and Hudson Gaither, and Maverick Gill; his loving companion, Katherine Scheidt; His brother and lifelong best friend, Thomas Gill; multiple cherished nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, Marina Gill; and two additional siblings, Gerald Jr. and Patricia Gill. He was preceded in death by:his parents, Gerald and Betty Gill; and his nephew, Nick Gill. Greg graduated from Lockport Township High School in 1981. He was a third generation machinist and worked at Gill Machine and Welding with his brother Tom. He enjoyed working on home improvement projects and anything that involved being outdoors, such as camping, boating, skiing, scuba diving, swimming and fishing. Throughout his life he really enjoyed having horses and riding four wheelers with family and friends. He was always there to help any family or friends in need. Greg always loved making people laugh with his sarcastic and sometimes borderline inappropriate humor. He made the best family breakfasts and never passed up an opportunity to play his drums with any of the kids. Most of all, he loved his family. Greg loved spending time with his children and absolutely adored playing with his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking Kate out on rides on his Harley while listening to Pink Floyd and working together in the yard. His absolute favorite thing to do was anything with his son Mason. He loved spending time with his son going for bike rides, hikes, playing games, taking trips, and having tv/movie marathons. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family will never be the same without him and will love and miss him the rest of their lives. Memorials can be made to the Trust Fund of Mason Gill at the Bank of Pontiac
