Gweneth M. Hamblin Obituary (1928 - 2019)

Gweneth M. Hamblin, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Bloomington, IL, on Saturday, July 20, 2019. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27th at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home in Le Roy, IL. Funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Bailey officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Bloomington, IL. Gwen was born December 22, 1928, on her parents' farm in rural Le Roy, IL, to Arlie and Lorena (Woosley) Bailey. She married Loren "Gene" Hamblin in 1948 in Le Roy, IL. He preceded her in death in 2012. Gwen is survived by her children, Kathy Whorrall of Bloomington, IL, Greg (Jocelyn) Hamblin of Irvine, CA, Gary (Nancy) Hamblin of Bloomington, IL; one sister, Norma Dunn of Longmont, CO; four grandchildren, Jaren Hamblin, Joshua Hamblin, Megan Hershbarger, Katie Fredericks; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dwayne Bailey. Gwen graduated from Le Roy High School in 1947. Her first job was at Kresge's Dime Store, where she met her husband through friends. She also worked at State Farm and Eureka Williams, but for most of her life she worked as an administrative assistant at General Electric, where she retired at age 60 in 1988. In retirement, Gwen and Gene very generously helped friends, family and neighbors. They delivered Peace Meals to the elderly and worked hard in their gardens from which they gave away most of the food they grew. Gwen was a member of the Le Roy Bethel Church and was baptized into Christ in 2016 at the age of 87. She loved traveling locally and abroad to visit new places with friends and family. Her many friends say that she never had a harsh word to say about anyone. Her positive outlook and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Gwen's family would like to give a special thanks to OSF Hospice Care for such great support and home care they provided to Gwen.
