Harry Edward Schultz Obituary (1920 - 2018)

Harry Edward Schultz, 98, of Bloomington, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home, at 8:06 PM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 with his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Sue Schultz "nee Arnette", and his granddaughter, Olivia Rydholm, by his side. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL. Rev. Jim Warren will be officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the memorial home by the Bloomington -Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5:00PM-7:00 PM Monday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL He is also survived by his daughters, Arnette Schultz (Charles Rydholm, Jr.) and Sue Schultz, along with three nieces Rocky Stoeckel, Kit Paulin, and Tracy Stoutenborough; and surrogate granddaughter Victoria Ahlen of Spain. He was born October 2, 1920, in Bloomington, the third of five children, to Fred E. Schultz and Flossie Frankeberger Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. Harry graduated from Bloomington High School, in the Class of 1939. He served our country during WW II, in the 493rd Battalion of the 12th Armored Division. He was a lifetime member of the 12th Armored Division Association, having been named Mr. Hellcat, in 2015; and was bestowed with a Master in Military Arts by Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, in 2012. Harry and Bettie were members of the First Christian Church of Bloomington. He was a lifetime member of the VFW of Bloomington and member of the Masonic Lodge of El Paso. Harry loved Cardinal baseball, ISU basketball, roller skating, and golf, being a long-time regular at the Prairie Vista course, until age 96. He retired for the US Postal service after 32 years. His family would like to express their gratitude to family friend Jenny Hall and all the staff of OFS Homecare / Hospice and ResCare for their wonderful care during Harry's last days.
