Pontiac Dateline: J. Ruth Steere, 93 of Pontiac, IL died Saturday July 3, 2021 at 9:20AM at Accolade Healthcare of Pontiac, IL. Her funeral will be on Thursday July 8, 2021 at 11:00AM at Calvary Baptist Church, Pontiac, IL. with Pastor Rick Newell officiating. Private family burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at Calvary Baptist Church. Memorials in Ruth's name may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac is handling the arrangements. Ruth was born on August 12, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI a daughter of George A. and Caroline (Joop) Stalker. She married David J. Steere on January 1, 1949 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in May of 2003. Survivors include: Daniel J. Steere of Chattanooga, TN, David J. Steere of Fircrest, WA and Janet R. Stuart of Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother: George Stalker of Fresno, Ca. Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters. Ruth was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and a missionary in Brazil and British Columbia. Ruth was employed as a shipping clerk at RR Donnelly's in Pontiac for twenty years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church-Pontiac, IL where she was the organist and pianist for over 40 years.
