Obituary for John A. Williams

John A. Williams age 87 of Normal IL passed away at 11:14 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 PM-7:00PM Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL with a Masonic service at 7:00 PM. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Centennial Christian Church 1219 E Grove St, Bloomington, IL. Rev. Heather Godsey and Rev. Neal Kentch will be officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the church by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Graveside services 1:30 PM Wednesday at Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee, IL. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington, IL.

John was born July 13, 1932 in Athens, IL the son of Benjamin and Hazel Williams.
He married JoAnn Carlson Bloomberg on January 4, 1963 in Kewanee, IL. She passed away
March 21, 2017. He later married Lucy Untz Stremlau on February 16, 2019 in Normal, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his 4 children, Jim (Mary) Bloomberg, Berwick, IL, Gina (Sam Waddell) Williams, Eureka, IL, Dennis (Nancy) Williams, Rapid City, SD, John A. ( Jacqueline) Williams II., Toulon, IL, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson,
and his brother in-law Richard (Wendy) Carlson, California.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Josef Bloomberg.

John served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for 40 years at GTE which later became Verizon as a District Service Manager. He was a member of the Normal Masonic Lodge #673 Mohammed Temple Shrine, Bloomington Consistory and the Tin Lizzies. John also was a member of Centennial Christian Church, the VFW, past First Commander of MOC, the American Legion, and the Bloomington Moose Lodge. In his retirement John enjoyed woodworking and making clocks. He was a proud grandpa, great grandpa and great-great grandpa and enjoyed making many wood projects for them.
