Kenton Farthing Jury Obituary (1947 - 2022)

WASHBURN- Kenton Farthing Jury, 75, of Washburn passed away December 6, 2022, in Peoria, Illinois, beloved brother, uncle, and great uncle. He is survived by his brothers, Owen (Alice) Jury of Edwards and Paul "Bill" of Washburn, sister Carolyn of Scottsboro, AL, niece Sarah (John) of Bixby, OK, nephew Paul of Boulder, CO, and great nephew Graham of Bixby, OK. He was preceded in death by both parents. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Linn Mount Vernon Cemetery. Kenton Farthing Jury was born November 1, 1947, in Washington, Illinois to Paul and Mary Farthing Jury of rural Washburn, Illinois. Kent spent his early school days first with one year walking to a one room schoolhouse and later going to Lowpoint Grade and Jr. High then attending Lowpoint-Washburn High School. His extra-curricular activities, besides farm chores, included 4H activities, school band playing alto saxophone, and especially Jr. and Sr. High basketball. After graduating from LW High in 1965, he continued his education at the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana majoring in Mathematics and minoring in the new Computer Science program. During his freshman year he enjoyed being a student manager for the college basketball team. While at U. of I, he joined the Delta Phi fraternity where he formed life-long friends. After graduation, he went to work for Sears Roebuck & Co. in Chicago. Then Uncle Sam called him to military service, so he spent two years in the US Army stationed at Ft. Myer in Arlington, VA and worked at the Pentagon helping design computer programs for the Army personnel division. All his working career was spent with Sears including many years at the then Sears Tower headquarters. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, and doing stained glass projects. He took several trips to Europe and many trips around the US and Canada. After retirement he moved home to the family farm and continued his hobbies. He even helped with the fall harvest. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
