Myrtle I. Edwards Obituary (1928 - 2020)

Myrtle I. Edwards, 92, of El Paso, IL passed away at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Heritage Health, El Paso, IL. Myrtle was born May 9, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Al and Tina Scarberry Wilting. She graduated from High School in Cleveland in 1947, and Grace College of the Bible, Omaha, Nebraska in 1950. Myrtle married Daniel D. "Dan" Edwards on July 24, 1952 in Cleveland. Together they served as missionaries in Nigeria, West Africa for 18 years. After returning to the States, they lived in Omaha for a few years and then settled in Illinois. Myrtle cared for many foster children in the local area and volunteered at local churches. She was an avid sports fan. Surviving is her daughter Rachel (Doug) Gillespie of Bellevue, NE; grandchildren Lauren (Philip) Johnson, Lindsey (Gabino) Loya, Luke (Jordan) Gillespie, Lea (Nate) Schenck; great grandchildren, Connor Johnson, Adalynn Johnson, Levi Schenck; daughter in law, Sherrill Edwards; two sisters; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Edwards in 1993; son, David Edwards; two brothers and six sisters. A private family service will be held at Evergreen cemetery, El Paso, IL. Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice.
