Obituary for Norma P. Thompson

Norma P. Thompson, 90, of Bethany, formerly of Bloomington passed away at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, December 1, 2019 in her home. Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL with Rev. Dr. Charles Witte officiating. Entombment will be in Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the memorial home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Mrs. Thompson was born November 27, 1929 in Hudson, Illinois, the daughter of George and Kathryn Staser Bryant. Norma was a homemaker, was a 1947 graduate of Bloomington High School where she was a member of the first Acapella Choir and sang in the Bloomington - Normal Mothers Singers. She married Robert L. ‘Bob’ Thompson on February 5, 1955 in Peoria and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2011. After getting married, she and her husband farmed west of Bloomington for 34 years. In 1986 they moved their farming operation to the Bethany area. Norma also owned and operated ‘The Ole House’ antique store in rural Bethany for several years.

Survivors include her children Steven Lee (Deborah) Mehlberg of Bloomington, Bruce Lee Thompson of Sullivan, Judy Lee Thompson of Bethany; fourteen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Jeanne Thompson of Normal; step-sister Karen (Ed) VanHook of Bloomington; step-brother Phillip Westfall of Danvers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Clarence Westfall, husband, two sons Richard and Michael, one great-grandson Devon, infant brother Billy, brother James Lee Bryant.
