Pat Van Deventer Michael Obituary (1931 - 2018)

PAT VAN DEVENTER MICHAEL Pat Michael, 86, a lifelong resident of Le Roy, passed peacefully at home on April 2, 2018. Named Maxine Ann Van Deventer at birth, Pat was born to Lyle and Lucille Voigts Van Deventer in Streator, Illinois on June 9, 1931. From the time her older brother Bill called her "Patty Cakes" as an infant, she forever became known as "Pat". If the significance of one's life can be measured by how much one gives freely and puts others before oneself, then Pat lived an extraordinarily meaningful life. She was a shining example of selflessness and generosity. She gave her time, her hospitality, her baking (especially her homemade rolls), her friendship, and her loving support to all. Pat was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Le Roy. Like many women in her generation, Pat's life purpose was providing for the needs of her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also immensely enjoyed golf, bridge club, and entertaining. Pat married Richard Michael on August 14, 1949 and they were married for 64 years. Dick passed in 2013. They spent many wonderful winters in Florida, and they greatly enjoyed traveling the U.S. and beyond. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy (Larry) Golden, Le Roy and Alice (Mark) Evans, San Diego, CA. Grandchildren are: Ashleigh (Lance) Sorenson, Salt Lake City, UT; Michael (Stacy) Golden, Palatine; Matthew (Amy) Golden, Le Roy; and Whitney Evans, San Diego. Great-grandchildren are: Malakai, Rori and Zuri Sorenson, Quinn and Owen Golden, and Joslyn and Brooklyn Golden. Pat is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends. The family wishes to thank Pat's loving and devoted care providers: Sharon, Dixie, Terilynn, Sally, Janet, Lee, Kim, Debbie, and Samantha, and the Hospice Care nurses for their compassion, guidance, and comfort. The family also wishes to thank the community of Le Roy for their outpouring of love and support. Pat's memorial service will be held at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home in Le Roy on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM, followed by Inurnment in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to: Advocate Hospice, the Le Roy Country Club, the First United Methodist Church, LeRoy, and the Angelman Syndrome Foundation in Honor of Whitney Evans.
