Ralph W. Johnson Obituary (1925

Bloomington - Ralph W. Johnson, 94 of Bloomington passed away Tuesday May 28, 2019 at 12:49 PM at Luther Oaks in Bloomington. There will be a funeral service for Ralph on Wednesday June 5, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Reverend David Glesne and Reverend Anne Christiansen will officiate. There will be a visitation from 10-11 Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements. Ralph was born March 25, 1925 in Bloomington to Thorsten and Hildur Johnson. He married Helen Grove in 1949 in Carlock. She preceded him in death in 1999. He later married Nola M. Johnson on April 19, 2002 in Bloomington. She survives. He is also survived by two children, Karen (Robert) Spizzo of Ruskin, FL, Keith (Linda) Johnson of Oswego, IL, one stepdaughter Robin (Les) Smith Wilmeth of Charleston, SC, one stepson David R. (Debbie) Smith of Bloomington, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Everett, Robert, Lloyd and an infant brother. Ralph attended Prairie Union School District 88 in Bloomington and later graduated from Bloomington High School. He then received his bachelors and master's in education from Illinois State Normal University. After graduating he worked one year in Streator as a Math Teacher before moving to LaGrange and teaching for 36 years at Lyons Township High School, both a math teacher and guidance counselor for thirty-six years. He was a longtime member of St Johns Lutheran Church in Bloomington and a member of Golden K Kiwanis in Bloomington where he served as Past-President. Ralph was known as a kind and gentle man. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
