Raymond A. Haynes Obituary (1940 - 2021)

Raymond A. Haynes, 81, of Mahomet, Illinois, formerly of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away at 10:12 P.M. Friday, July 2, 2021, at home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the Mansfield United Methodist Church, 200 E. Illinois Street, Mansfield, Illinois, with Pastor Nick Gleason officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, Illinois. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home of Mansfield, Illinois, is assisting the family with arrangements. Raymond was born on February 12, 1940, in Adair County, Kentucky, a son of Veston A. and Belva L. Ashbrook Haynes. He married Peggy O. Olson on April 3, 2021, in Mansfield, Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Peggy O. Haynes of Mahomet, Illinois; two grandsons, Jesse Harris of Mattoon, Illinois, and Austin (Danielle) Harris of Sadorus, Illinois; great-granddaughter, Dustin Rose Harris, the light of his life; siblings, Curt (Mary) Haynes of Lake Fork, Illinois; Marvin (Cathy) Haynes of Monticello, Illinois; Danny (Nancy) Haynes of Fayetteville, Tennessee; Candy (David) Gilbert of Mansfield, Illinois; Cassie (Aaron) Ayers of Mahomet, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Haynes Collins of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Carlene Martin, parents and two brothers, J. D. Haynes and Jerry Wayne Haynes. Raymond was a retired truck driver, and had seen almost every state in the U.S. as well as parts of Canada and Mexico. Even after retiring from driving a semi, he found he missed being on the road, and started a pilot car service. So even though it was a pick-up he drove on those trips, he was still truckin'. He enjoyed spending time with other drivers reminiscing about the places he'd been, the different kinds of loads hauled, and which kind of truck was the best. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Raymond loved and was loved by his family as well as his fur family, Rusty and Boots. He will be remembered with a smile and missed beyond measure.
