Rudy John Weichman Obituary (1944 - 2017)

Rudy John Weichman, 73, of Flanagan went to his heavenly home at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, surrounded by his loving family. Rudy was born November 9, 1944 to Anna Elizabeth Folkerts Weichman and Chris William Weichman in Bloomington, IL. He attended Flanagan Schools graduating with the class of 1962 at Flanagan High School. Rudy served with the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 serving as a truck driver stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. He was still very actively involved with the Flanagan American Legion having served as commander several times. He was married for 48 years to Deanna Vitzthum Weichman of Pontiac. They married May 4, 1969 at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Flanagan. She survives. They have two children, one daughter, Angela (Brad) Campbell of Cornell and one son, Ryan (Kate) Weichman of Bloomington. Also , one step-daughter Kelly (Kevin) Davis of Atlanta. Rudy was also the proud Grandpa to 6 grandchildren, Carrie Elizabeth Campbell, Christian John Weichman, Chelsea Eileen (Dylan) Adkins, Katelyn Rachelle Davis, Levi Thomas Weaver and Tomie Christine Weaver and one great-grandchild Dahlia Joy Adkins. He is survived by his sisters, Rosetta Slagell and Rita (Paul) Hemken and one sister-in-law, Kathy Weichman. He was proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers Richard Weichman and Robert Weichman. Rudy retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in September of 2001 after 32 years of service. His service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2017 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Flanagan with Rev. Paul M. Lellelid officiating. Following the service, a military burial will be at St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Petri Lutheran Church or The Flanagan American Legion. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan, IL is assisting the family with services. Rudy was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, loved working on projects around the home, fishing when possible, and outdoor activities and was an outgoing servant of his church. Rudy was the type of person who never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. Rudy was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and buddy who will be greatly missed.
