Velda F Sancken Obituary (1916 - 2017)

Velda F. Sancken, 101 of Pontiac, IL died Saturday December 9, 2017 at 12:30PM at the Pointe of Pontiac in Pontiac, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Lutheran Church, Pontiac with Revs. Tim Hubert and Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. Inurnment will be in Five Mile Cemetery, Saunemin, IL. Memorials in Velda's name may be made to the First Lutheran Church -Pontiac or a charity of the donor's choice. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac is handling the arrangements. Velda was born on June 13, 1916 in Owego Twsp. IL a daughter of George and Grace (Lee) Todd. She married Alva S. Sancken on February 21, 1935 in Cullom, IL. He preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter: Doris (Roger) Worthington of Princeville, IL; six grandchildren: Jeffrey (Carla) Worthington, Bradley (Cindy) Worthington, Douglas (Diana) Worthington, Carrie Lee Worthington, Jamie (Ben) Hafele and Jay (Deann) Moran; eleven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Velda was preceded in death by one daughter: Joyce Moran and one sister: Esther Bammann. Velda was educated in rural schools and a 1934 graduate of Saunemin High School. She was a sales clerk for over 50 years in downtown Pontiac and her last employment was at the Holiday House. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church-Pontiac where she was a former member of the Anna Circle and Quilting ladies of the church. She was a former member of the Zonta Club and Ladies of the Moose.
