Howard "Shorty" Legner, 92, of Pontiac, IL., passed away, Saturday, July 4, 2020 at 8:55 pm at Good Samaritan in Pontiac. \r\nHis funeral will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 11:00 am at Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL. with Dee Runyon officiating. Burial will be in South Side Cemetery, Pontiac, IL. following the service. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials in Howard's name may be made to the First Christian Church or the Pontiac High School Athletic Department.\r\nHoward was born on January 12, 1928 in Odell, IL, a son of Henry and Laura Bernadine Legner. He married Eileen Durham on April 29, 1951 in Pontiac, IL. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2018. He is survived by five brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brothers and sisters. \r\nHoward was a graduate of Odell Schools. He joined the Navy Seabees during World War II where he was a welder. After leaving the Navy, he returned home to work as a milkman and then at Harms Meat. He was an avid bowler and managed the Fiesta Bowl in Pontiac for 53 years. He was also an avid Cubs fan, a member of the American Legion and a member of the First Christian Church. \r\nHoward and Eileen had no children of their own but they deeply cared for and loved all their nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews especially those who were always by their side, and that the same deep care, compassion and love was returned to them both until the very end.
