Lawanda F. Dillow Harmon Obituary (1934

Lawanda Faye Dillow-Harmon, 85, of Lexington, IL died on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Heritage Health, Normal Legacy Unit at 3:04 pm. Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Lexington Cemetery with Rev. Garry Gromley officiating. Visitation will also be on Sunday from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Calvert-Johnson & Musselman Memorial home in Lexington. Memorials can be made in her honor at Chenoa and Lexington grade schools. She was Born April 17, 1934 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Thomas W. and Ruby White Dillow. She married Gerald Harmon of Bloomington, IL, surviving, and later Ronald Ransdell, now deceased. Surviving are her three sons, Steven Harmon of Bloomington, Pete (Cindi) Harmon of Champaign, and Max Harmon of Lexington, brother Euel (Judy) King of Woodriver, IL, cousin Marilyn (Jay) Hiatt of Tullahoma,TN, five grandchildren John, Alexa, and Mike Harmon all of Champaign, and Ross Harmon of Texas and Amanda Johansen of Virginia. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother John L. "Jack" King and sister Shirley Kruse. Lawanda was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lexington, the Illinois School Teacher's Association, and was a long-standing member of the Lexington Ladies Club. Lawanda graduated from Alton IL High School in 1951, co-valedictorian. She received a B.A. in elementary education on a teaching scholarship (1955) and a master's degree both from ISU. Lawanda fulfilled her calling in life by teaching, for over 37 years, 5th and 6th grade math and science at Chenoa and Lexington grade schools. She dearly loved all of her students and believed her students kept her young at heart. As a single parent, Lawanda valiantly raised her three sons giving them unconditional love and support through good times and bad. She was always there for her family; she was faithful. Lawanda humbly lived out her Christian faith through love, kindness, and care for others, believing that in the end love never fails. Lawanda was a great conversationalist too loving to talk to anyone and everyone--befriending almost everybody she met. She wants to talk with all of you again--in heaven. Nothing would make her happier.
